HOW IT STARTED

I've always celebrated birthdays with gusto.  From an early age to when I was in college, where I would post a countdown to my birthday at least 30 days in advance, birthdays have always been a big deal to me. When my children came along, my focus on celebrating birthdays shifted and I began planning parties for them.  I love so much about planning a party. Whether it's coming up with the theme, ordering the invitations, creating the party decorations, or working with the bakery to design the cake, the planning part is so much fun.  The real magic comes on the day of the party, when it all comes together, and I get to see family and friends gather and have a good time.  A long time friend of mine recently thanked me for all the holiday parties and children's parties that I've hosted over the years, specifically thanking me for creating so many wonderful memories for her kids. That meant the world to me. 

That's what this is about.  My kids and their circle of friends have been incredibly fortunate over the last 10 years to experience birthday parties.  I want to expand that for other children who's families might not be as fortunate to host birthday parties.  Celebrating birthday's is not just about one day of cake and presents, but about bringing loved ones and friends together, and creating moments that will last a lifetime. As another friend recently helped me see, a birthday party is so much more than joy and memories.  A birthday party like one of ours has immense power to change people's lives. To reduce bullying. To promote inclusion. To bring families and loved ones together, giving them a sense of connection.  To foster self-confidence.  The list goes on and on. 

For my first post, I wanted to share some memories of my children's birthdays. Here are some of my favorite themes and parties & links to learn more.  Whether the theme was construction, donuts, mermaids, barbies, or trains - these are some of my favorite memories. 

My dream is for other kids in our area to have spectacular birthday parties too and to give other children the chance to experience a birthday celebration that they'll never forget.  Imagine all the memories we can create.
